We all have clothes and bits and bobs that we won’t throw out. There are heels we still can’t tolerate, but cost too much to part with. the special top that can’t be worn until it goes to the dry-cleaners. Cotton socks mixed up with the wool, and, as always the shirts with missing buttons that we keep meaning to sew back on.

What we need is a ‘method to our madness’. Organisation does not need to be a perpetual painstaking process of sorting clothes into appropriately labelled drawers. A well thought out storage system or an entirely bespoke wardrobe made to your specifications, will easily solve the problem.

Well, how does one go about with this gigantic de-cluttering task? Here’s a simple mantra:

Quantity, Quality, Purpose and an Eye For the Future!

How many dresses, shoes, ties, jeans, shorts, skirts, coats, scarves, shirts and miscellanea do you possess? How many of the same will you buy this year, the next, and the one after that? Having an idea of this will tell you how much space you want free and made available for a tidier wardrobe this year and the years to come.

How many of your clothes do you wear in the summer or winter? Only at home, with close friends, on formal and business dinners, at parties? Separate the more delicate and prized possessions from the everyday ones in different sections of your wardrobe.

Maybe keep your clothing sorted by purpose and quality. This way, you’ll not put on a coffee-stained shirt under your jacket in a hurry; you will be able to pick out your outfit easily for wherever you are heading!

Remember the future. You might have a couple of months traveling planned. Maybe you are planning a pregnancy… devote the space for all these immediate possibilities, so that the money you spend now will take care of that added pressure that piles up any change in one’s life.

To get the most out of your storage and organisation requirements, a bit of time and forethought are paramount to a continued easier life!

Mahogany has long been a timber that signifies quality. It first gained its recognition in Britain when the wood was used by Sir Walter Raleigh for repairs on his ship while he was visiting the West Indies. On his return to England, Queen Elizabeth I commented on the beautiful colour and wonderous grain and commissioned for the timber to be made into a table for her palace.

Apart from being fit for a queen, the hardwood is versatile and loved for its durability, it looks great on large pieces of furniture as well as smaller detail, both of which indicate great craftsmanship. Mahogany was a firm favourite with furniture designer Thomas Chippendale, whose work highlighted the superiority of the timber. It has a subtle grain that offsets the rich, distinctive colour of the wood. A mahogany finish brings brilliance and opulence to furniture, making your home feel warm and luxurious.

C.S. Lewis understood wardrobes, in much the same way as we at Inhouse Interiors do; a wardrobe isn’t a proper wardrobe until it has a shocking amount of useful storage inside. Our wardrobes do, and infact that’s what good bespoke wardrobes should do, maximise space!

While realistically we can’t really claim to fit the entirety of Narnia into your wardrobe, we do recognise that different people want and need different things. That’s why over the years we have installed hundreds of bespoke wardrobes with thousands of different features.

By having a designer wardrobe you are essentially maximising your use of space. It allows you to have the style you want without compromising on capacity. It will be truly unique, built to your taste and design constraints.

Whether you are a hanger or a folder, prefer wood finishes or lacquered surfaces we have hundreds of styles and functions to choose from…

Sliding doors are well suited for maximising space, while bi-fold and pivot doors allows easy access and a full view of your clothes and shoes. Mirrors are not only functional but create an illusion of depth and light.

When deciding on a designer wardrobe, there are a few things to think about. Firstly, how much space do you have? Are you storing mainly clothes or shoes and how many of your clothes need to be hung up? If you already have other bedroom furniture you will want your wardrobe to harmonise with that. Sometimes people may want their wardrobe to be the centre of attention, other times, it might be preferable to have it understated.

If you are looking to have a wardrobe fitted into an attic space or alcove you might be used to coming up against design constraints. In this case, bespoke furniture is ideal, designed to fit perfectly into your awkward spaces, it will look like it truly belongs there, giving function to an otherwise difficult area.

An Oak is a tree or shrub in the genus Quercus of which about 600 species exist on earth. “Oak” may also appear in the names of species in related genera, notably Lithocarpus. The genus is native to the northern hemisphere, and includes deciduous and evergreen species extending from cold latitudes to tropical Asia and the Americas.

At Inhouse Interiors we absolutely love working with Oak – whether solid or just veneer, it’s versatility is extremely appealing when making custom furniture. It’s great strength and hardness means it will last a life-time and it has a lovley permeable grain also which makes it ideal for staining, Oak can be pretty much stained any colour, but we think it’s natural soft & buttery colour is best!

It also has very attractive grain markings, particularly when quartersawn. Wide, quarter-sawn boards of oak have been prized since the Middle Ages for use in interior paneling of prestigious buildings such as the debating chamber of the House of Commons in London, England, and in the construction of fine furniture. Oak wood, from Quercus robur and Quercus petraea, was used in Europe for the construction of ships, especially naval men of war, until the 19th century, and was the principal timber used in the construction of European timber-framed buildings. Today oak wood is still commonly used for furniture making and flooring, timber frame buildings, and for veneer production. Barrels in which red wines, sherry, and spirits such as brandy, Scotch whisky and Bourbon whiskey are aged are made from European and American oak. The use of oak in wine can add many different dimensions to wine based on the type and style of the oak. Oak barrels, which may be charred before use, contribute to the colour, taste, and aroma of the contents, imparting a desirable oaky vanillin flavour to these drinks.

Do you prefer blending colours to contrasts? Is a spacious environment more becoming to you than a cosier one? These little quirks that we subconsciously follow while buying any little adornment for our houses are often compromised by the mass-produced, replicated designs in every other furniture store, leaving very little room for the personal touch that defines our homes.

Bespoke living room furniture in macassar

Opting for bespoke furniture is a straightforward answer to this problem. The simple idea behind bespoke furniture is that there is no “target costumer base” for which the designs are manufactured. Every single piece is tailored around your specifications: from the material of your choosing, to the colour, dimensions, design, cuts and customised utilisation. It also means that you will not find, in any home, store or magazine, the lovely furniture you have so carefully chosen as yours.

With off-the-shelf pieces, it is inevitable that you may need to remove certain items to make space for the new addition. Ever so often, you will have an ugly gap of a few inches between the new bookcase and the television unit! Bespoke furniture not only tailors to specific requirements you have of the piece itself, but also carefully attends to the location to which the item will go. The measurements are exact; taken by professional designers so that nothing you find in your house looks like it isn’t born there!

Living room furniture design by Inhouse Interiors

A wardrobe for your particular clothing habits cannot be compared to the averaged necessity-and-style-requirements of the average woman. Off-the-shelf pieces so often have a design you could die for, but the colour, or material, turns out to be a deal-breaker. Made-for-measure accessories will only fit the same design to your spatial needs, but all that changes is to give you a piece that fits your desired location, without necessarily fitting in.

With bespoke furniture, you have your unique tastes, aesthetic and functional needs met, without the need to compromise on any aspect of your purchase.

One of our most loved services is designing and creating furniture for children’s rooms. We love them because it gives us a break from being sensible for a bit and, we get the chance to show off our creativity and our wide variety of finishes and fittings.

The design

Firstly, before the imagination gets wildly out of control with cartoons and fairytale castles, it’s very important to have an idea of how long you want the furniture to last. Kids usually grow out of things fast… a bed that was designed for a 12 year-old can be outdated within 5 years without considerate planning. Of course, you’re probably not going to know how their tastes will change through time, but at least you will have planned for a versatile and usable space.

Incorporating a desk / workstation into the design (even before they are at secondary school), means you won’t have to spend too much again later.

If the children are old enough, definitely get them involved in their bedroom design as they may have some great ideas to consider.

Durability & safety

Hardwearing, sturdy furniture is key to both durability and safety; great-grandma’s antique chest of drawers won’t last long in a child’s bedroom! So, the purpose built and fitted option is ideal, and with many durable finishes like hi-gloss and lacquer there are many options to create something that lasts a long time. At Inhouse Interiors our furniture is designed to last for 10+ years.

Designing a room around favourite cartoon characters or fantasy worlds is usually reserved for the younger ones. So, if you are planning a themed bedroom, make sure that you are prepared to re-decorate within 5 years.

A very popular way of creating a themed room is to incorporate a wall painting or mural as it’s easily painted over when your child’s tastes change. For those artistic and brave parents with some time to spare it’s a cost-effective way of dramatically turning a plain room into a child’s dream, full of colour and inspiration. You can even get a little help by using removable and custom designed wall decals like these below from Spin Collective (http://www.spincollective.co.uk).

We get the name Walnut from the Old English “wealhhnutu” literally “foreign nut”.

An instantly recognisable grain and longevity and attractiveness, this is one of our most asked for woods – either in solid form or a veneer. And, luckily it’s quite easy to work with. It has many uses aside from furniture – flooring, musical instruments, gunstocks and ornamental carvings.

Here’s some of the work we have done in Walnut…

(Diospyros celebica) Macassar, Ebony or Marble Wood as it is often known is one of our most sumptuous furniture finishes. You’ll probably have seen this wood used as fingerboards for many quality pianos, violins and other instruments.

The wood is black with brown regular or irregular reddish-brown to green-brown streaks and has a distinct sheen and is most decorative. It’s unusual vibrant tiger-striped grain really makes an impact in home furnishings too; creating smart, masculine and dramatic pieces.

Here’s just a glimpse of the wonderful furniture we have produced in Macassar…

Whatever you are looking to convert your attic room into, from a luxury master bedroom to a games room… we can help create the perfect space with our dedicated attic room service and fitted furniture solutions.

Making use of attic space can be liberating, and of course add value to your home if done correctly! Deciding what to use your attic room for is easy, but choosing and fitting the correct furniture fit for purpose can be a headache. Your attic can be transformed into almost anything;

Here’s some ideas for your new room…

Luxury master suite

Walk-in wardrobe / dressing room

Children’s play room

Home office

Library

Guest bedroom

Cinema / TV room

Games room

Storage in an attic is usually the hardest part to get right as awkward A-frame ceilings and limited wall space don’t lend themselves to off-the-shelf furniture solutions. There’s probably limited light available, unless you’ve opted for Velux windows (which is very much advised). So well fitted. Light or neutral shades of furniture are best suited, so too are mirrored wardrobes and units to reflect as much light around the room as possible.

With tight or awkward spaces, it is really important that our designers pay a visit to your home to not only collect accurate measurements, but to also discuss the requirements for the space.

We will usually have some ingenious storage and design ideas for you to think about. Barbara will be more than happy to talk through your attic room needs, call 020 7978 2349 to discuss your needs!
